Historical significance
A fast, direct striker whose scoring helped Liverpool mount its strongest league challenge of the late 2000s.
Torres gave Benítez's Liverpool a forward able to attack space and finish at the speed required by a title challenger. His partnership with Steven Gerrard was especially productive, and the 2008–09 campaign remains the clearest context for assessing his impact despite the absence of a Liverpool trophy.
